They Won’t Sit Still… And That’s Okay!

Lots of parents say to me “I’d love family photos but my children won’t sit still” and to that I say GOOD! Children don’t need to sit still and say cheese for a photo to be good, in fact I’d prefer if they didn’t. Children photograph best when they are allowed to play and be themselves, then we can capture their giggles, their personalities and the joy that they are feeling.

In 10 years time would you prefer to look back on a perfectly posed photo and say awh that’s nice, or would you prefer to look at a photo and be able to relive a moment and a feeling frozen in time (I know which I’d choose)

This is why my photography style is very natural and child led, I want to capture your family exactly as you are and doing the things you love. Whether that’s going for ice cream at the seaside, running around in the woods or going to your local park, those are the moments you’ll want to remember.

Asking a child to sit still, who doesn’t wish to isn’t going to give you the lovely photos you desire, it’s just going to make them sad or frustrated. BUT allowing me to follow their lead, run around after them and play games with them is going to bring out their natural smiles and we will be able to photograph the fun they are having rather than the grumpy face of a 3 year old that does not want to sit still.

This is another reason why my family shoots are location based. Children want to explore and discover the world, they don’t want to be cooped up inside a little studio, where’s the fun in that? My location shoots are all perfectly tailored to your family to make sure that your children are comfortable and so that we can document your family in a place that resonates with you.
