Kira Lehane

Kira Lehane, born in Norfolk, has just graduated The University of Brighton with a First Class Honours in BA Photography.

Lehane uses both digital and film technologies as a way of documenting the world as she sees it. Covid-19 lockdown really forced Lehane to step out of comfort zone and in doing so she created a body of work comprised of self-portraits that explored identity, this stemmed Lehane’s love for portraiture and capturing emotions through the lens.

Her work consists of documentary style portraits of people she meets in the streets, she finds getting to know these people and speaking to them whilst taking photographs is really rewarding, despite being nerve wracking at times, and she gains a lot of trust from the people she is working with by having these conversations. This also helps Lehane to address certain social issues within some of her works where appropriate. Her most recent project The Art of the performer documents the culture of street performing, allowing the viewers to see all aspects of the art form. This project has been made into a book created by Lehane.
